In the Spirit of Sustainability

SHOWING UP FOR SUSTAINABILITY, SUSTAINABLY.

Ever since our doors opened, we have been committed to creating powerful change for your health and the environment. So, what are we talking about when we are talking about sustainability vs sustainable changes? Well, it comes down to Our Vision, versus how we carry ourselves in the day-to-day.

SUSTAINABILITY

This means preventing the depletion of natural resources to maintain ecological balance and harmony. Sustainability looks like reducing the amount of harmful and toxic substances we use and engage with, that have a negative impact on our beloved Mother Nature. Think major greenhouse gases – carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and synthetic chemicals. ❌

Committing to sustainability means making sure we aren't compromising the environment or the well-being of future generations. 🍃 When we talk about sustainability, personally and as a biz, we refer to our carbon footprint. Translation? This footprint (not really your tootsies, just a metaphor) is the total amount of greenhouse gases that are generated by our day-to-day actions.

Our goal at N+F is to keep our carbon footprint low and help you keep yours low, too.

SUSTAINABLE CHANGES

This means cultivating behaviour changes that we can continually show up to, in order to help the planet and ourselves. Ever noticed how hard it is to come back from holiday and start going to the gym EVERY day? That's unsustainable behaviour change. A sustainable change would look like going to the gym 4 days a week OR only going for a short amount of time that you can manage.

Basically, alongside our Big Picture focus on sustainability, we aren't big believers in drastic overnight changes or trying to do everything all at once. Why? Because it's unrealistic, overwhelming and stressful. We are big believers in helping you create habits that work in favour of your health, the environment and our community.

As a business, we are obsessed with finding new ways to serve our mission in sustainability – whilst expanding our horizons (sustainably, of course!).

We are so excited that you are with us for the ride.

So, what's been happening at N+F?

MEATLESS MONDAY

Mondays don't have the best reputation. We're here to change that.

We want Monday to feel exciting, fresh and encourage you to do something great for the planet (and your body). So, we are offering 1/2 price on your second #vego salad when you grab 2 of our salad bowls on a Monday. Pick from our Winter Harvest and Crunchy Asian salad and get more for less.

So, why Meatless Monday?

Because going meat-free for ONE DAY A WEEK can reduce your annual carbon footprint as much as not driving your car for a whole month. Skipping meat on Mondays can make a huge difference to the environment.

We always like to give you options.

We know that going meat-free always might not be for you. Introducing a meat-free day is a great way to A) know you're doing your part for the planet B) get your tastebuds across our Winter Menu C) grab lunch with a friend and save some moolah!

Ready to grab some meat-free lunch? (and great savings?)

Come and see for yourself.

PAIRING WITH SUPPLIERS THAT CARE

New around here?

You might have missed the memo (AKA memoir) on how we found and sourced our wonderful suppliers, you can read ALL about here.

Want a quick refresh on the goodness these teams are doing? Here's a quick refresher on our favourite suppliers who are doing The Right Thing™️.

Dirty Clean Food

Can't go past your meat fix? All of our meat is sourced from local suppliers, through Dirty Clean Food. Experts in grass-fed, ethically farmed and regenerative farming techniques. These folks are changing the way we consume beef and lamb, whilst supporting West Aussie farmers.

Tiller Farm

Owned and operated by one of our co-owners George Cooper. Tiller Farm, located in the South West of WA, is a 50-acre plot with fresh veggies, an orchard and even a flock of ewes and lambs. Tiller, alongside other local producers, provides us with delightful ingredients for our Winter menu.

Pressed Earth

Masters of all fresh, pressed and deliciously invigorating juices. We cannot get enough of their Ginger Zing and Vitamin See juices this Winter.

Margaret River Coffee Rosters

Dealers of beans, creators of good mornings. Our go-to WA-owned roastery provides the caffeinated goodness of a top-notch bag of beans, every time.

BUILDING SUSTAINABLE
HABITS, TOGETHER

When we work on sustainable actions at Nourish + Feed, we like to keep one thing front of mind.

You might have heard it before. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.

If you haven't, there ya go. Nice quote for the memory bank.

When it comes to building sustainable habits – we often think that we need to be a 100% perfect eco-warrior ALL the time. This isn’t realistic, nor healthy. So, as well as doing the hard yards of making you a dee-light-full array of dishes every day (that are great for your bod + the environment) we ALSO wanted to collate some ideas for how we can reduce that carbon footprint, without the worry.

OUR TOP IDEAS FOR
SUSTAINABLE HABITS

(Psst! They are also heaps of fun – not a chore)

Eat locally sourced foods.

Okay, so. We have kinda got this one on lock (you’re welcome). If you head to your local Nourish + Feed you can have peace of mind that our WHOLE menu is created from locally supplied goodness. Translation pls? Fewer food miles. Fresher food. Tastier lunch. 10/10 environmental contribution.

Get in loser, we’re going (op) shopping.

Fast fashion is a leading cause of excessive waste. Close your tabs on that shopping cart of 20+ items you've been debating about all week. You don't need them!

The upside? Op shopping is WAY cheaper, a fun activity and it's somuchmoresatsifying when you find what you are looking for AND it fits perfectly. It’s like treasure hunting! 🏴‍☠️

Minimise daily single-use plastics

Going to the shops for groceries? Take a reusable bag. Ordering a coffee? Take your KeepCup. Grabbing your protein smoothie? Bring your reusable straw. You don’t have to be perfect every single day but when we are all focusing on consistency – those occasions add up.

Head to the farmer's market

We are definitely #1 fans of the farmers market. That’s no surprise. For those sleepy weekends when you’ve had your N+F fix and you are cruising into your Life Admin, you can head to your local Farmers Market and stock up your fridge + pantry for the week ahead.

Need a hand finding yours? Here you go.

📍 Stirling Farmers Market – Sundays 7:30 AM - 11:30 AM

📍Poynter Farmers Market, Duncraig – 9 AM - 12 PM

📍 Kyllia Community Farmer's Market, North Perth – Saturdays 8 AM-11.30 AM

📍 Subiaco Farmers Market – Saturdays 8 AM - 12 PM

📍 Vic Park Farmers Market – Sundays 8 AM - 12 PM

Opt for natural cotton fabrics over synthetics

This one might surprise you. If you are following our point above (see: op shopping), you might want to keep an eye out for cotton, linen or hemp. Synthetic fabrics are made out of plastics, which create tiny-itty-bitty microplastics that can enter and pollute our oceans. No beuno. Sorry.

Opt for an email receipt

You know that moment when the server says “do you want a receipt” and you say “no worries” and it’s super awkward and then they give it to you anyway and then you just waddle off and sit in your car, paralysed with embarrassment. WELL. We can’t help that you’re awkward (you’re on your own there). We do however have a workaround – just ask them to email you your receipt. Save the paper, you won’t need it!

Turn off your computer at the end of the day

Other than the fact you ought to leave work at work – this one does wonders for the environment and your power bill! Win-win, we say.

Sharing is caring.

If there are any things you don't see on this list that you think we ought to know about – send us a DM! The more we can share sustainable habits and ideas with our community, the better.
